The split is visible in the relay list itself. damus and primal both answer with a Cloudflare header, while nos.lol and nostr.mom serve from the same plain nginx on one host, and nostr.bitcoiner.social runs strfry. So when a CDN wobbles, a good part of the network keeps answering. What breaks hardest in an outage like that is discovery. A client whose bootstrap list sits behind the same CDN has nobody left to ask, even while the rest of the network is healthy. A client that already knows its relays keeps reading and writing straight through.
