Around the time he was running for mayor, I remember there were credible accusations that he did not reside in New York, as was required by law for candidates.
Then he posted a video of himself in the New York apartment he supposedly inhabited, while the moving guys were visibly carrying in his furniture in the background.
As a native New Yorker I hold strongly to my principle that Real New Yorker is anyone who has lived in New York for at least three weeks. I will volunteer to be one of the people who shows up at the door of a new arrival on day 21 to hand them the membership card and the little brass badge. Under my rules, Eric Adams is a Real New Yorker and I would be a hypocrite to say he wasn't, even if I believed it.
But he is also a crooked scumbag and as a Real New Yorker who is ashamed that we are in the same club, I understand the impulse to revoke his membership.
