Politics of XLibre aside, I've noticed that Claude Code is [frequently used in pull requests.](https://github.com/X11Libre/xserver/pulls?q=is%3Apr+state%3Aclosed )
I'm afraid earlier or sooner it's gonna be used to code the server itself, if it hasn't been done already. Existence of libxfixes (a library only for X server fixes) was hardly a selling point of the original X11 anyway.
I think the best outcome would be what suckless.org has done with *Xterm* - instead of trying to modernize and improve the old, hard to maintain and develop software, they just created its new, simpler equivalent (in that case it was *st* - simple terminal) from the ground.
In my opinion [Phoenix](https://git.dec05eba.com/phoenix ) from dec05eba has the potential to fill the gap after X11 in the same way as *st* after *Xterm*. Let's hope they aren't using AI in secrecy.
