For the longest time I thought "firmware" meant "firm" as in "business", because firmware is often a part of the software that you can't touch because it is made proprietary by the company that made it. I thought it was firmware because it was owned by the firm.
But actually the "firm" refers it like that because it is between "hard" and "soft". Firmware sits between hardware and software...
