8:30am. We have been open 2.5 hours. We have had 5 people come through the door and 3 voted. 2 saw the ballot, realised it was a republican party primary, and decided not to vote. This happens a lot on primary days like this. People just see the sign and think “election? I need to go vote!” And then they find out what’s on the ballot.
From our perspective, it’s worth a bit of extra time to make sure that people want to vote. Because if we issue a ballot and then they choose not to vote (because they see the ballot), then it’s a bunch of extra paperwork. If we don’t check them in and don’t issue a ballot, that’s best for everyone.
