Unless you mean the bit about calling them "passport bros", that is kind of grifterish. Not to mention very weird about people with different ethnic backgrounds coming together.
My brother fell in love with and married a woman from mainland China, and the extended family was apparently awesome and very welcoming to him. She's one of the kindest people I've ever met.
