25. Do illicit drugs or alcohol play a role in your story?
Sometimes, yes, but a very small one – only in that they are part of life in this pseudo-medieval setting.
I have just realised that I've *never* referred to or described or depicted someone smoking. It's so much *not* a part of my life, that I don't even think about others doing it. It strikes me that this is in stark contrast with The Lord of the Rings, where *everyone* smoked (the male characters, at least, which is ~99% of the cast!). Tolkien smoked (I've seen plenty of photos of him with a pipe), and it was clearly an important thing to him.
