In 2011/2 in some conversation at a BBC event in a studio I was bemoaning the planned loss of long wave and my boss said to the third person we had some ideas of putting data over LW didn't we?
Yes but we will run out of valves, to which the answer was well we could have them made if we had to.
Around then there was an attempt for the BBC to be the Internet of last resort, but that died too.
To me it was a natural synthesis and still is.
