This is exactly why the UK needs electoral reform, a Constitutional convention and reform of the education System. Knowing just how many Old School Ties there are in Parliament shows how non existent the meritocracy is.
My personal feeling is that the Lords needs to be replaced with a Chamber with members appointed by sortition as a start.
