Mixing with proximate races introduces trace admixture and achieves the same thing. Why do you think they accepted foreign races eventually? ...because they had already accepted small doses of those races through foreign ethnicities.
Once you have Italians around who are 4% African and 2% Asian, why not just have Asians and Africans around?
