It is interesting because my dogs are very aware of what kind of car we are getting into and what behavior is expected in each specific kind. There are two or three people in my local friend group who go places with me and my dogs are totally fine sitting in their backseat while I sit upfront so I can chat with the driver. However, they are very well aware that when we take Ubers or other rideshares that we ride together and they lay on the floor and they would never dream of getting on the seat. This morning, after I was finished at work, one of my colleagues who normally does not drive me was going to bring me home. I walked the block to his car with Callisto and when we got there, I opened the backdoor and she sat down and wouldn't get in and was waiting for me to go in first, which is the protocol when I take a rideshare. I get in first, get myself settled and then I call the dog to sit at my feet on the floor. I tried to explain to her that it was OK for her to ride on his backseat and she was not having it. I thought I was going to have to ride in the back with her. Eventually, I convinced her that it really was OK to get on his seat. He also has a dog so goodness nose the hair is not a problem lol! Anyway, I just thought it was so funny because people seem to think that dogs have very black and white thinking and sometimes they do, but they also are really good at judging a situation on its individual merits and understanding when rules apply and when they do not. Anyway, we made it all the way home and the Guinness stew is cooking away in the crockpot. All of the dogs that are not mine have since gone home so I do believe it is time for me to celebrate the equinox like my ancestors did… By taking a nap.
