Having the steps clearly documented (not necessarily with timelines) was something my conveyancing solicitor (local) did very well. They also communicated solely by email (unless we agreed a call) which I really appreciated - I find phone calls out of the blue rather stressful.
Plus, giving appropriate time and space to read through things and ask questions. Trying to press for a decision just slows things down, as the situation becomes stressful
