Every time I learn a new categorical technique, I get even more category-pilled.
When you are exposed in areas where you are not really an expert, you tend to say stuff like “OK, the abstraction is cool but it doesn’t help in practice, you really need the computation.” The better I get at mathematics, the more often I find cases where I thought I needed a computation and it turns out that I really really really don’t. The thing just works.
I love computations. I am right now writing some long-form notes that have tons of computations in them, because I think that computation is how you get intuition for things. But at the same time, there are abstract techniques that are just unbelievably effective, and until you you have five pages turned into one by some of these, you are going to be living in the stone age.
