I'm re-watching Workforce. People online often comment that brainwashed Janeway in this episode was carefree and relaxed, without the burden of being the captain. I don't see it. I'm 6.5 minutes into the episode including the opening sequence, and brainwashed Janeway is a submissive people-pleaser, desperate to be good enough to keep the job and desperate not to be caught doing anything wrong. She doesn't look carefree or relaxed to me at all. This desperation to be good enough to keep the job fits with the backstory the brainwashing gave her, that she escaped bad circumstances to get there. Yes, she dates and moves in with a guy, but she's not carefree. Also it's sad how for a Trek female captain in the 1990's to have a romantic interest, she has to be brainwashed first, while male captains had quite a few relationships. I mostly do like this episode, though--all the characters completely failing to recognize each other. #StarTrek #StarTrekVoyager
