I mostly can, because I have a solar hot water panel that warms my water to reasonable temps (but not really hot). It used to feed the old water heater with at least a little warmer water. So in the hot summer, and a "Navy shower" technique... It wasn't always pleasant in the early morning. But people survived without hot water tanks for millennia, I can do it for 6 weeks*.

*Well, it wasn't 6 weeks....
