Looks like I managed to get a #Matrix server up and running.
Just trying it out really… the VM is a little one, running #OpenBSD 7.6. Brisbane WICEN currently uses a couple of Mailman mailing lists (hosted by the web host), but lately certain providers (ahhem, Gmail) have been flagging them as spam.
Thus I'm looking at this as an alternative. The nice thing being it federates. So for example if Ipswich, Bayside, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast and say Townsville radio groups (all groups that Brisbane WICEN regularly work with) all set up their own servers… we can have our own spaces but still share and converse on a common platform.
Video chat meetings will be the next frontier after that… I think this can integrate into #Jitsi but not entirely sure how that works.
Big question in my mind is how big a VM I need to actually run this for a smallish (~20 user) group, assuming we don't go all upload-happy with big attachments.
