Interestingly, there are also some projectors that use sensors to calculate physical distance for things like auto-focus, and that data could theoretically be used for reporting actual projection dimensions.
Incidentally, I’ve given talks about this topic in the past where I got the dimensions of the projector screen ahead of time to demonstrate how it’s possible to match the size of a dollar bill, even with projectors, if you just have the info about the screen dimensions to work with.
