Just finished recording an album on virgin reel-to-reel tape!
1/4-inch width at 7-1/2 IPS!
Listening to it now. And my thoughts?
Well, this is obviously better than vinyl by a long, long shot. More expressiveness on treble. Cleaner stereo separation. More soundstage.
Comparing this to Type IV Metal cassette with Dolby S is where it gets more eye-opening. Cassette has a much lower noise floor. But reel-to-reel tape has more significant head room.
Though not perfect, reel-to-reel tape really is the Rolls Royce of analog audio.
