I don't want to be too unoriginal when it comes to hot takes about PJ LOTR, but I would like to offer this thought.
The full story of how Peter Jackson was allowed to make a mockery of *The Lord of the Rings*--a popular mockery, a profitable mockery, but still a mockery--has not been told and I will go so far as to speculate that the evil #tech barons who are now profiteering off #Tolkien symbolism must have played some role in the unprecedented funding of THREE gigantic blockbusters headed by a trashy horror-comedy director whose previous (and first) Hollywood movie was a dud called *The Frighteners*.
I remember my own surprise when I first heard about it. It seemed like an extraordinary gamble, but what if Jackson was backed up by the promise of massive funding from villains such as the "PayPal mafia"?
