I hesitate to make hyperbolic statements. And I need to be honest - I profoundly disagree with the death penalty - so this is, I think, colouring my response.
But the proposed public broadcast of an execution feels like a point of no return.
At least with public hangings, people had to find the motivation to get to the site.
It would just be too easy for people to choose to witness this state murder. I think the psychic wound this will do, the appetites it will encourage, will be very bad.
