Eventually I realized I have to touch a certain depression on the door handle in just the right way. The car does send me a message eventually if I get it wrong. And it clicks on and off repeatedly if I wash it as I guess the aforementioned depression can't distinguish a hand from a water torrent. But at least it doesn't blow the horn.
