I'm watching a video ostensibly to explain "generative AI" (actually just LLMs) to the non-technical public. The video essayist expresses surprise at research into how people are actually using LLMs, showing the public is far more using LLMs for companionship than efficiency.
Well, duh. LLMs are *good at* companionship. They're terrible at efficiency.
LLMs are the virtual assistant equivalent of a secretary who types five words a minute, one of them misspelled, but who has great cleavage and keeps fawning over the boss: you don't hire her for her secretarial skills.
