Question for people with sewing expertise: my adult son bought a second-hand red jacket and would like me to add letters to the back to make it look like in the photo. The jacket has a few layers of fabric. I'm debating between 1) use a seam-ripper to open one seam of the back and try to get enough room to hand-embroider the letters onto the outer layer, then sew the seam back up; vs. 2) buy pre-made letter appliques and iron them on, no ripping out seams, but the store-bought letters probably won't be the same font/color etc. He'd like it to look as much as possible like the photo, but I don't want to ruin the jacket.
