On a trip to South Africa in 2007, a visit to Cape Agulhas, the southernmost tip of Africa, had to be on the itinerary. While others looked out to sea and marveled at the idea that this was the meeting point of the Atlantic and Indian Oceans, I was entranced by seeing succulents in their native habitat, growing in a harsh environment to which they had adapted.
