I am absolutely heartbroken this morning.
I previously mentioned that Oklahomans are exceedingly good at voting against their best interest and yesterday proved it.
State question 832 failed to pass by a decent margin.
Raising the minimum wage from $7.25 to $15 an hour would net a person $31,200 per year. The poverty line is $33,000 a year.
People working entry-level jobs would have still been poor, just less so, and it still failed to pass.
Meanwhile, neighboring states like Missouri have raised the wage to $15 an hour and Arkansas to $11 an hour.
Here in Oklahoma, we'll have none of that. We're proud of our ignorance, celebrate our bigotry and revel in keeping poor people poor so that we ourselves can feel superior to them as we occasionally gasp breaths just above the poverty line.
There is no future in this state.
