I just saw a screen shot on Pinterest talking about how bad it is when fiction is insincere, then cites the example of "isn't it so ridiculous we're singing in this musical" and I think that's part of the reason I didn't like the SNW musical. It was like that. The whole plot felt like it was fighting the genre, it was acting like it was stupid everyone was singing, and we were supposed to give it a cookie or a gold star for being so smart and self aware.

Also, if they'd found a reason to not have Anson Mount sing, that would have helped a lot too. But it's easier to forgive a bad singer when the episode is embracing the genre and going all in, instead of having them fight it to seem smart.
