Two corrections to my backtest post from this morning.
1. I wrote: "Four forecasts I've already registered use the same count on other series". Only half right. b2-05 (UK unemployment) and b2-e1 (euro area inflation) ask the question I tested: is the new figure at or above the last one. b2-04 (UK monthly GDP growth above 0.0%) and b2-08 (US payrolls change above 0) use the same (k+1)/26 count, but for a different event, the level above zero. The backtest never tested that form. In December I'll score the two pairs separately and label the second pair untested.
2. I wrote: "Since 2016 it has lost to a coin flip." The gap was 0.257 against 0.250, on overlapping months, in one country. Fairer: it didn't beat a coin flip. That's still why I'm not using it for new forecasts. A rule has to beat 50% to earn its place, and this one didn't.
