I think you could look at any time period of the past and agree that it has its horrors. I imagine one day people will say the 2020s were horrific and wouldn't want to live during our time.
If you check out my page, I homeschool my children so this was a history field trip for them.
You seem to have taken a fun day and made it sound as though I was promoting terrible things to my children lol.
They learned about sewing, pottery, book binding, and a lot of other things from daily life during th 1700s.
Not everything historical has to be doom and gloom.
