Ethereum developer Kevaundray Wedderburn has submitted EIP-8450, a proposal aimed at streamlining Ethereum's transition to a post-quantum cryptography system. The new proposal suggests eliminating the current authorization path for quantum keys via withdrawal address registration and its associated execution layer contracts. Instead, validators' existing BLS signature keys would uniformly handle the registration and replacement of post-quantum keys. The proposal includes a minimum interval of 256 epochs for key replacements and incorporates replay attack protection mechanisms. Additionally, it introduces a hash-based Verifiable Random Function (VRF) root and further refines cryptographic specifications.
