AI didn't invent garbage papers, in fact this has been a massive problem even a decade ago. Remember scigen making total nonsense and it getting accepted in bad journals?

Good journals have a slightly higher standard, but definitely not good enough. Reproducibility crisis has been a thing for a long time now.

AI slop could even be argued to be positive for academia because it is going to finally force the issue by throwing open the flood gates, so now something *needs* to be done...
