until I saw an image of myself beyond myself.

My innermost self consumed me,
and burned away every “me” I had ever been.
I killed that self,
and from its ashes,
I nurtured myself anew.

Now even my deepest self
has come to me through the door of peace.
I closed my ears to every voice but my own,
until, at last, I heard myself.

Ask my deepest self
what this “self” truly means.
