Whoops, another case where I have to write a mock newspaper article.
These are kind of weird for me, because I do have some journalistic training. So when I do one of these, I want to use inverted pyramid structure, neutral ("objective") language, and all that — but when I'm doing it in the middle of a novel, it cuts against the natural impulse to heighten tension, include piquant description, and so on. It's an annoying bit of writerly whiplash. 1/3
