If someone's only exposure to information about Southwest Asia is right-wing media (including the New York Times, quite frankly), then I can understand the mindset -- even if I don't agree with it.
And I believe taking an accusatory tone toward someone who's been on the receiving end of dogpiles since GamerGate will just cause them to react reflexively, rather than listening. Plus this is Mastodon, not Twitter. I try to practice kindness here, because I feel like this can still be a space for discussion and dialog rather than just outrage. And I want my default stance toward other members of the LGBTQIA+ community to be kindness in any event, because we don't get enough of it.
