Here's #DoubleDownNews warning that the UK government wants to change YouTube's algorithms by law to favour legacy media over independent journalism.
If only there were people warning earlier of those toxic corporate social sites and the toxic algorithms they use to manipulate people, encourage engagement and silence dissent!
If only there were decentralised alternatives that give users more control over their content and reach, and allows members of the public to use social media without helping to fund Nazi-hosting companies that support genocide.
And if there were such alternatives, if only there were people (like me) messaging independent media to tell them about it and invite them to use it!
Alas! It's all a pipe dream ...
But I'm not saying government censorship cannot affect Fedi. No, no, no, but if the online left had diversified years ago, such attempts to control the YouTube algorithms could have lessened the attack, or could even have made it entirely negligible.
The left helped build people's reliance on toxic social media, and the shadowbanning and censorship have been going on for years. But what did they do about it?
