I have an 'acquaintance' who tells everyone how much more 'moderate' he has become in his views since attaching himself to our social group, but he still thinks that ethnic 'jokes' are amusing, and finds it hilarious to 'tease' the young trans woman who drinks in our pub[1], for which he gets slapped down on a regular basis. Then you get the archetypal bully's response of "come on, I was only having a laugh". No Tim, you're being a prick again.
I have largely cut him dead, and suspect that it's only a matter of time before we collectively tell him to fuck off and drink with other fuckwits.
As they say, tolerating intolerance is never the answer.
