Interesting. I guess this is one of those convenience-phrasings that a non-native speaker (like me) would work around not knowing by using more wordy formations.

I would have started that sentence, “Es ist möglich, daß…”, or, “Ein Möglichkeit ist…”

Or even more likely, to try to sound less clunky, I’d probably have said, “Ich glaube…" or “Man glaubt…”

I remember a few times when my exchange brother told me my formulations were that of e.g. an Opa drinking tea with pinky extended.
