The European Broadcasting Union narrowly missed out on an embarrassing scandal of international proportions this evening and it was entirely avoidable.
Israel should never have been allowed to compete in the Eurovision Song Contest and the abnormally high public vote they received undermines the entire competition.
If they had won, and they very nearly did, the political fallout would have been enormous and would have cast doubt on the future of the competition.
