I'm personally against popular election of judges. While pure democracy SOUNDS great, I challenge people to confront its harsh reality. I call this the 'People of Walmart' test:
Pick a Walmart near you, and go there. Walk EVERY aisle, from end to end, so that cover every part of the store. As you do, make a mental note of every person you see, and try to assess their general character, intelligence, and how much you'd trust them with important things, such as walking your dog.
