All throughout scripture, God pleads with us to love one another! He urges us to especially care for the children, sick, elderly, and less fortunate. The Bible says in Matthew 25:39-41, "Verily I say unto you, inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." It is very clear how God wants us to show our love for our fellow man. However, He’s not just talking about our family, friends, or people who are nice to us. There’s nothing in the Bible that tells us it’s okay to be mean to our enemies! Indeed, it is just the opposite. Jesus wants us to love our enemies! In Proverbs 24:17, He counsels us, "Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth." God doesn't want us to entertain one tiny moment of pleasure upon seeing our enemies fall! Not even when it is an abusive ex-spouse, a boss that has fired us unfairly, or a family member that has cast us out! We are to love, love, love each other as God loves us, and share His unconditional love with everyone we meet! Text: John 3:16, Ephesians 5:1-2, 1 John 4:12
