After reading Politics and the English Language, I moved on to trying to find a nice, comprehensive dictionary of Early Modern English, which itself has many permutations; tangentially, the hatred of Latinates is a deep-seated rancor, this word itself an inkhorn/ynkehorne term, which are complained about in texts as early as The Arte of Rhetorique (1553) by Sir Thomas Wilson. English used to be mocked for having so many loanwords that it was said to barely be a language at all. Now here's a good question, one that I don't know the answer to; without Latin* inkhorns, and with that much of our French influence, does English have enough words to get by?
