-International Events-
1. World leaders meet at UN as their planet grapples with war, division, runaway AI and climate shocks: Under a global cloud of wars and bitter divisions, world leaders meet at the United Nations this week facing new fears that runaway artificial intelligence could threaten humanity even as climate shocks and escalating prices are already making life much tougher for hundreds of millions of people. The U.N.’s 193 member nations have agreed to a wide-ranging reform package that includes updating key institutions such as the powerful U.N. Security Council, where the U.S., Russia, China, Britain and France hold inordinate sway because of their veto power. Reform, however, is easier said than implemented. (AP) (AC-As the UN meets this week, the background of tectonic power shifts loom like a foreboding storm. Is the rise of socialism, Islamic political power, and alternative consortiums (e.g. BRICS), enough to topple the 80-year old US empire? Will AI become our new governor? Is the UN useful nowadays? The FUD surrounding these power shifts is real, even appropriate, as all power shifts have messy consequences.)
2. Ukraine Pounds Major Moscow Refinery As Global Diesel Crisis Threatens Economic Shock: Ukraine launched a major overnight drone strike on Russia, hitting a Moscow refinery despite President Trump's request for Ukraine to stop striking Russian energy infrastructure as a global refining crisis deepens. The Gazprom Neft-owned Moscow Oil Refinery, about 16 miles from the Kremlin, was struck by drones. The facility has a processing capacity of around 245,000 barrels a day and supplies fuel to the surrounding metro area. (ZeroHedge)
3. German Chancellor Merz calls state election a 'disaster' for his party but vows to stay on: In the north-eastern state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the CDU fell short of a 5% threshold to enter parliament. Far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) was on track to win the most votes in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, but it is unlikely to govern as other parties refuse to work with it. (BBC)
-US Reports-
1. Protests Erupt in Austin After ICE Officer Reportedly Shoots, Wounds Fleeing Illegal Alien: Officials with the DHS confirmed that an ICE officer shot and wounded an illegal alien from Venezuela. Police Chief Lisa Davis and Austin-Travis County EMS Director Robert Lickritz confirmed that an ICE officer was involved in the shooting that left the man wounded and in “serious, but stable condition” at a local trauma center. Protesters promptly arrived on the scene and confronted officers attempting to conduct a preliminary investigation. (Breitbart)
2. Trump’s massive Greenland deal makes clear who controls the Arctic’s strategic future: Call it a win-win for Denmark and President Donald Trump. "The United States will FOREVER have the complete ability to do what is necessary in Greenland in order to secure and defend the security of Greenland, and the United States of America. The agreement ensures no US adversary can establish a base or make sensitive investments without American approval. The U.S. Space Force base at Pituffik, 750 miles north of the Arctic Circle, runs radars for space situation awareness, which includes tracking new maneuvering Chinese spaceplanes and satellites. Trump’s agreement ensures China cannot install installations in Greenland to threaten these vital missions. (Fox)
3. Trump to be sued by MS NOW, CNN, Politico to reverse White House ban: MS NOW, CNN and Politico are set to sue President Donald Trump on Monday morning and to ask a federal judge to reverse his total ban on those three media outlets from the White House. (CNBC)
-Regulatory and Legal-
1. California Orders Kill Switch Design for AI Models Proven to Resist Shutdown: California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed an executive order on September 18 directing a panel of world-leading experts to design a mandatory emergency shutdown mechanism — widely called a "kill switch" — for the most advanced AI systems in the world. California is not just writing rules for an uncontrolled technology — it is writing rules for a technology that researchers have now documented resisting the specific control mechanism those rules would mandate. X is suing two men for allegedly building a network of fake bitcoin news accounts to farm payouts from X’s own creator fund. X terminated all accounts linked to this network on Aug. 18 on grounds of “coordinated revenue sharing fraud and platform manipulation.” (CoinDesk) (AC-Ironic that a human-based Bitcoin News aggregator (@BitcoinVeterans), is reporting on a fake bot farm based on Bitcoin News. Weird times, for sure.)
-Economic Indicators-
1. Treasury Yields Edge Down: The yield on the US 10-year Treasury note fell 5bps to 4.95% on Monday, as traders started the new week with another decline in oil prices, amid hopes that diplomatic efforts could lead to a resolution to the conflict with Iran. (TradingEconomics)

1. US Military Almost Boarded Chinese Ship Over AI-Hallucinated Nuclear Claim: An AI chatbot told a US military analyst that a Chinese-flagged vessel was transporting nuclear weapons components — a claim that was entirely fabricated. Armed US personnel were preparing to board the ship and military aircraft were already airborne before anyone caught the error. It came within minutes of happening. (TechTimes)
-Bitcoin Community
1. A Bitcoin Lightning flaw could send a node’s entire balance straight to miners: A flaw in Bitcoin Lightning software Eclair could let malicious peers wipe out a node’s local channel balance through fees. ACINQ released Eclair 0.14.3 on Sept. 14 to patch three peer-triggered vulnerabilities that could cause operators to lose or lock funds during channel closures, splicing, and on-the-fly funding. The patch now rejects closing-fee proposals above an operator’s configured maximum. (CryptoSlate)
