surprised to discover that Voidlinux still packages XForms!
so i immediately tried to compile LyX 1.4.5.1 with it, that being (afaik) the last version that supported XForms; but unfortunately, it failed because strcmp and strncmp are no longer members of std
the wonderful thing about open source: if you want to compile one thing from 2007, you damn well better have *everything* come from 2007
the past is another operating system; they do things incompatibly there
