There are 4 fallacious statements in the "household budget" metaphor for national economies. Most people focus on 1) Countries can run out of money (they can't)
What countries are supposed to be saving for under the household budget analogy is "a rainy day". The money will be spent on something desperately needed. 2) Countries can't run out of resources (they can)
As should be abundantly obvious by now when governments switch off programmes such as training teachers or nurses they can't simply be switched on again. The trainers and training establishments no longer exist. There is no longer even anyone who can train more trainers or build more establishments. Manufacturing sectors that have not even been mothballed can't simply be switched on again, how absurd.
