plugged in the fans to the motherboard. still no cmos reset. it was doing it every boot an hour ago! i'd got to the point where it wouldn't boot from the hd, now it does!!

two theories:

- i just went with "default cmos settings", last time it demanded i reconfigure. that works better; i did something weird the first time.
- i'm going insane.

fuck it, going to put the lid on the case and call it working for now.
