Today, it is done by techbros who dominate politics.

IMO, we absolutely need better social media (and AI) control. But that must go with breaking the power of these dangerous techbros (and not simply moving the data to gov).

Laws like OSA and Australia's ban are crude tools, but necessary in the evolution of regulation.
