Question for all the other computer people out there.
Do you re-apply thermal paste on your devices/computers?
I did it on my gaming laptop, and it dropped the temps by about 20 degrees for both the GPU and CPU, which seems crazy to me. The results were backed by the fact that one of my fans did not start right away because the temps didn't need it to.
I attribute the stark difference to two things.
1. The stock thermal paste was pretty generic, and was already dried out. (3 year old computer)
2. The way the thermal paste was applied from the factory, spots did not get good coverage.
I embarked on this adventure because my fans were running really loud at random, and even worse when I gamed.
I didn't even know one of my fans would turn off if it wasn't needed.
