“Thanks for the GitHub star on [software-project]]!”
Received a LinkedIn invitation from a founder of a startup that Y Combinator had previously funded. But only because I had (sometime in the distant past) starred their GitHub repository. I don’t even use their software, and now they want to get my personal data to sell more of it to me. Basically they are using GitHub stars (“bookmarks”) as an inbound data source for outbound marketing, and want to add countless unrelated people to their founder’s LinkedIn network. And I don’t like that idea at all.
