On Christmas Day 1937 a thick fog in West London grew so dense that Charlton goalkeeper Sam Bartram remained on the pitch long after the match had been abandoned, unaware the other players had retreated to the changing rooms. According to this report in The Gloucestershire Echo, a search party was sent out to bring him in!
