Even a 2011 Core i7-2600K (Sandy Bridge) can do 10 GbE at line rate over a single TCP stream on a bare-metal system, no jumbo frames needed, no problem. It becomes a problem if there's a packet-per-second bottleneck somewhere in the stack, and there are a lot of them for a VM. But all forum users only know how to enable jumbo frame.
