I don't have much to say about 9/11 today, only because my heart is far too heavy and I'm struggling to find the right words. I've been trying to distract myself and think of better things. It would be my great-grandfather's 126th birthday today, and a friend also turned 98. We went to the nursing home, brought her flowers, and celebrated with her and the family. It was a wonderful time. These are the things I've been thinking about today. I can't let myself be devoured by dark memories of the past.

I live near Sikorsky Aircraft, the main helicopter manufacturer for the US. We were terrified of what was going to happen that day. We thought we were the next target. It was pure madness in my town. They evacuated all schools. All of them, except for mine. The principle made the wrong decision. It wasn't pretty. I'll never forget the panic in our teacher's eyes, the way they reacted, the way my mother argued with the principle when she came to pick me up.

Let's remember those we lost today, and yes, that certainly includes those who passed away years later due to illnesses caused by the destruction and devastation of that day. We can't forget them. NYC had a very heartwarming ceremony and an extra moment of silence for them. Thank you, Mayor Mamdani.
